Our European Adventure in Instagram Photos

I had no idea it would take me so long to get back into the swing of things after a big trip.  I fully expected to start blogging about it last week, but I was exhausted and spent nearly all of my free time trying to catch up on sleep.  To kick off my recap of our trip, today I wanted to share an Instagram photo round-up of our European vacation.  Starting tomorrow, I'll be recapping each city with plenty of food pictures, awesome sights, and reviews.

I have a lot to share, so please stay tuned especially if you want to hear about the trials and tribulations of packing only in a carry-on bag, how Kevin almost died, and how to make it in a foreign country without knowing the language!

Guest Post: Kallie from But First, Coffee

Hey there everyone! I'm Kallie and I blog over at my blog But First, Coffee! I blog a little bit of everything from beauty to life to recipes to a weekly Sunday Inspiration post!  I'm super psyched that Lauren has given me the chance to post here on her sweet blog while she is away on vacation! This is my first ever guest post (newbie!) As I'm sure you know, Lauren is away in Europe and she suggested I share some photos with you of my most recent trip there.  Back in early July I traveled through France and then ended up in London for a few nights, I blogged a post from almost each day of my trip! I was a little overwhelmed trying to decide which day or location to share with you, as well as which pictures to choose! I decided a smorgasbord of photos would be the best way to go (smorgasbord are always the best way to go, right?) I hope you enjoy and if you haven't already, I'd love to have to stop by my blog and say "hey!" I love making new bloggy friends!

The photos take you through our time in France where we visited Paris, Dijon and Champagne.

Thanks again to Lauren for sharing her blog with me today.  I hope you all enjoyed seeing a few pictures of my trip!

A big thanks to Kallie for taking over for the day.  Be sure to check her blog out because she is awesome.  I'm loving Europe as much as I thought I would, but as much as I'd love to stay forever, I promise I will be back next week!

A Low Maintenance Gallery Wall

Gallery walls continue to be huge all over home decorating websites, blogs, and Pinterest, so I wanted to show you ours because it's a little different from anything I've seen anywhere else.  It all started with the problem of where this wall is located in our home.  You see, the most conducive wall to a large photo display is in our dining room area.  The problem is that this wall is on the same wall as the door to our condo.  Every time the door shut, the picture frames would shift.  By the end of the day, the frames were all tilted in different directions and looked like a hot mess.  I do not have the patience or the time to shift frames back to level every single day.  So I looked into alternatives and found a solution!

red envelope

These frame sets made by Red Envelope hang on a rod, so they sit just off the wall.  Now when we shut our front door it doesn't destroy our arrangement!

The left side is all Boston themed.  It includes a map, a shot of the Charlestown Bridge taken by our wedding videographer, two pictures of the Zakim Bridge, some random Instagram photos, some homemade art, and a "Home Sweet Home" print.

The right side is devoted to places that we have traveled.  It includes shots of Chicago, Brooklyn, St Lucia, Martha's Vineyard, St Louis, and an "Eat Well, Travel Often" print.

We love how this looks, but I am a little disappointed in the quality of the frames themselves.  I hoped that this gallery wall would be a place where we could switch out photos and update things over time, but the frames are a little too flimsy for that.  I highly recommend these frames for an easy gallery wall that does all the work for you--no laying out frames for days trying to find the perfect configuration, no cutting out traced paper to try the configuration out on the wall, no putting 50 tiny holes in your wall.  It's a lazy version of a gallery wall, but we love it.

Packing for Europe

We will soon be leaving for our two week vacation in Italy and France, and it's been our mission from the beginning to pack in just one carry-on bag each.  Some European flights really tack on the extra charges for bags, so the challenge was on!  First, I laid out all the clothes that I was considering on the bed.  Then I matched things up to come up with the maximum number of total combinations that I could get out of this assortment.  Without even getting creative, this line-up can yield at least 12 outifts and fits into my bag with ease.  I mean really, I have a TON of extra room in my bag--maybe for some Italian leather shopping? Or some Parisian goodies?

efficient packing

My bag includes:
2 maxi dresses
3 basic tees (white, gray, and black)
1 chambray button up shirt
1 pair of distressed boyfriend shorts
1 printed tank
1 printed skirt
1 pair of skinny jeans
1 pair of black leggings
1 fedora
1 faux leather jacket
1 bathing suit
1 scarf
1 pair of sunglasses
1 pair of sandals
1 pair of tennis shoes
1 pair of black flats

Thank goodness my years of being in a long-distance relationship with Kevin made me sort of a packing expert. I hope to get the feeling of wearing something new every day even though I'm going to be repeating things over and over again.

As for my travel apparel, I will pretty much be recreating this outfit below exactly.  Comfortable yet chic.  Plus I hear that in Italy leggings seem to be as popular as they are here.

Have you ever packed for a trip in just a carry-on?  Any tips on what I absolutely shouldn't leave out of my bag for a successful trip to Europe?  I can't wait to post after the trip to show you how I paired everything up!
